The Role
Are you passionate about providing opportunities for the community to have their say on projects which can impact where they live, work and study?

The Community Engagement Officer provides a consistent point of contact for the community and key stakeholders to address issues and concerns that are wide ranging in their complexity.

This position will work with a broad range of business units to identify opportunities for system, process and design improvements with the objective of pursuing an exceptional level of customer service and continuous improvement.

The nature of this role requires weekend and evening work on occasion. 

*This opportunity will be offered on a Temporary Full-Time basis (up to September 2025)

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and implement community engagement plans and initiatives through various methods and techniques to encourage active participation in community engagement, across all business Units.
  • Support and assist the operation of Council's digital engagement portal with website content and online engagement activities.
  • Present information to relevant community groups including residents, businesses, schools and other key stakeholders 
  • Facilitate community consultation to understand service levels and to deliver agreed assessments 
  • Represent Council at external forums, working groups, committees etc. as required.
  • Assess, progress and resolve complex problems related to community members, Council volunteers, community organisations and service providers 
  • Complete administrative duties as necessary to the function, as well as identifying business improvement results to the organisation.
  • Participate in projects across the City Business and Engagement Unit which consists of Events and Activation, Business Marketing and Development and Community Engagement, as required.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (University Degree) in Communications, Community Development, Public Relations or equivalent.
  • C Class Drivers Licence
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in community engagement, including dealing directly with community and other stakeholders and writing engagement plans and reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading engagement workshops, community panels
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in analysing engagement data and monitoring and evaluating engagement projects. 
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by experience in writing high quality, professional engagement plans, reports and promotional materials (e.g. website content, 
  • Ability to exercise high levels of autonomy, while at the same time working effectively as a team. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to manage conflicts and contentious issues, including the capacity to negotiate, de-escalate situations and gain trust.
  • An ability to build and maintain effective, outcomes focused working relationships across all levels of an organisation as well as with external stakeholders, including community

The salary range for this opportunity commences at $90,858 (Grade G, Step 1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
