About the Department

The Community Services Department works within the Customer and Organisational Services Directorate to promote a sustainable Southern Downs where all residents have the opportunity to grow, learn, create, care and connect within.

Community Services play a key role in improving the wellbeing of the Southern Downs community. The Department maintains a variety of community facilities and coordinates initiatives such as disaster response and recovery and civic events. The Department delivers on strategies to support mutual collaboration opportunities between community groups, encourage capacity building and foster a connected and engaged community.

 

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Community Development Officer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our organisation, you will play a vital role in driving community engagement, supporting local initiatives, and fostering positive change within the community.

 

Term:                         Temporary Full-time - May 2026

Hours of Work:         72.5 hours per fortnight

Pay Level:                 $3,061.70 to $3,258.83 per fortnight (Level 4), plus superannuation and annual leave loading 

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience. 

Employment Base:  Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate)

Other Information:    This is a maternity leave position

  • Develop and maintain effective networks with stakeholders including Council, community organisations, service providers, funding providers, contractors and businesses, to establish partnerships in the delivery of programs, services, activities and events for the Southern Downs community.
  • Participate in relevant network groups to maximise opportunities for cooperation, partnerships and promoting community development initiatives, activities, services and events.
  • Undertake project planning, consultation, analysis and evaluation of a range of community development projects, activities and events; and ensure adequate reporting to Senior Management.  
  • Prepare and present proposals, reports, business plans, budget submissions and other documentation including Council reports on behalf of the Community Services section as required.
  • Play a lead role in organising Council’s involvement in community and civic activities and events, which have relevance in the local and broader community

What You Will Need

To be successful in this role, you will need:

 

  • A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role.
  • A Blue Card (Working with Children) or the ability to obtain this card is also required.
  • Demonstrated experience in community planning, development and project management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current community development trends and the ability to plan for and deliver innovative projects that respond to existing and emerging issues.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to operate effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines including dealing with competing demands and managing multiple projects and tasks.
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
