What’s the role all about 

The City of Port Phillip has made a strong commitment to children and families through the Children’s Services Policy, which recognises the value of families having access to affordable, safe, accessible, quality services to support development to their full potential. 

The Family Support Services Team Leader is a senior and specialist role within the FYC Department, and requires a highly motivated self-starter, with integrity, strong problem solving and initiative who can provide flexible, multi-layered and quality service responses to deliver positive support and wellbeing outcomes. 

The three main objectives of the role are:

  • Leadership and staff management
  • Strategic Service Planning and Development
  • Specialist liaison and advocate

1 x full-time permanent opportunity 

What you might do 

  • Drive leadership and coordination of Family Support Services, programs and projects 
  • Support and supervise a team of passionate and driven staff delivering family services, including Supported Playgroup and Integrated Family Services
  • Advocate for the needs of families in Port Phillip, including through service improvement and integration across Council programs
  • Build strong relationships within the Family Services sector at a local, regional and state level as appropriate to operations, policy and best practice context for family services

Who we are looking for 

  • Formal and completed tertiary qualification in Social Work (including eligibility for AASW membership) and experience in the Family Services sector.
  • Experience in staff and team management and development, particularly in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of family dynamics, early intervention and prevention, cumulative harm & family support models for vulnerable and high level ‘at risk’ clients; and ability to apply this knowledge to innovative, integrated practice. 
  • Experience in overseeing multi-faceted service areas and systems (with sound understanding of the Family Youth & Children Act 2005) and providing well-considered strategic direction, including the ability to analyse complex situations, develop creative solutions, achieve outcomes and meet quality improvement requirements.
